This is like listening to the Wario version of Paperboy. Bravo.

I disagree haha. I think you chopped up her vocals in the most original, interesting way. I like the call and response melody in the beginning a lot. Very regal sounding. Are those your vocals too?

DarkHorseOrchestra responds:

Well, let's agree to disagree then haha. Yeah those are my vox too

I like it more than the original. If you had more time to flesh this out, it could have been something. The middle section is the best part. It sounds concise and tight. The rest of the song is bit bland and the mix isn't up to snuff.

I can respect the effort here. Don't rush next time.

Maybe it's because I'm at the end of judging this competition but this one does not hold my interest. It's not a horrible track but it gets boring quick. I can see the FL Studio session. Mixing has a lot to be desired too.

Better than what I was doing in '03 though, hahaha.

There are some ideas here that aren't bad on paper but are just poorly executed. I can hear what you're trying to achieve but you just haven't grasped it yet.

The fuzz is completely overbearing. The drums are the worst offender here. The drums are completely off tempo and kill the mood for the entire song. It's very hard to distinguish what is going on in the song.

I have to respect you for the effort. Keep at it.

A pure classic. The original song is great but this loop is legendary.

You can only go up from there. Sheesh. What made you choose the original? Either way, this kicks ass. You did well here. I love the intro. I love the groove to it all. There's something "cool" about this track. I have to give you a lot of credit for what you were working with. The last 30 seconds or so are so dope.

That being said, the snare is horrendous. So loud and to the left. Why... The claps and cymbals are pretty bad too. Fix the drums and you have a perfect song.

I LIKE IT

SI-7 responds:

Thanks for the review, and thanks a ton for the advice on the percussion. I have issues with panning things properly, as I'm completely deaf on my left side.

Yeah, I'm not terribly impressed. Fine for a menu for a low budget ps1 game. It's kinda cute. I can't listen to the loop properly on Newgrounds even because it doesn't loop right.

Kinda laughing how popular this is. Good work there, man.

You went in a direction I wanted the original piece to go. You evolved it and brought more dynamics to the song. The mix is tight and everything sounds pro.

The sidechaining is a bit obnoxious, though. I can barely enjoy the main melody of the song because it goes in and out so much. We finally hear the full melody at 3:39 with no side chain but there's no beat and its very anti-climatic the way it ends like that.

It's still a very well rounded and fleshed out remix.

Thank you for the feedback!

I feel so conflicted about this song. The song really gets extremely enjoyable at the one minute mark. Makes me wanna punch people on ecstasy. It's great.

But it's too short and the first 30 seconds are so boring and bland. Ending is weak.

High energy.

I make music and try to make peace.
